Welcome
Welcome to Sunapee School District, SAU 85
The word Sunapee is derived from the Algonquin word "Soonipi" which translates to "land of the wild goose." Sunapee School District is the pre-K through grade 12 public school system serving the families of the community of Sunapee including the villages of George's Mills and Wendell. We also accept tuition students from surrounding communities who strive to be a part of our schools. Sunapee has a rich tradition of educating our students locally. Over the years we have received national recognition from US News & World Report as a bronze level middle high school. Our elementary is one of the highest performing schools in the state as measured by NH standardized tests. You will find in both of our schools qualified educators, over 60% of them with more than 15 years of experience in Sunapee.
There are numerous opportunities for enrichment and the development of co-curricular interests. Students in grades 6-12 have the opportunity to wear the green and white of Sunapee in sports such as soccer, volleyball, golf, skiing, basketball, softball, baseball and track. Additionally we have unique clubs including a bee keeping club at the middle high school and our third grade partners with a local sugar house to collect and produce maple syrup. Go for a ride with the mountain bike club or learn some outdoor skills with either our elementary school spring enrichment or the middle high school outdoor club.
Outside of the supportive schools is the community of Sunapee. Our town sits on the western shore of beautiful Lake Sunapee and near the base of Mount Sunapee State Park. Recreation opportunities abound for all.
