Lunch Account and Snack Monitoring

Meal Charge Policy 2024/2025

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

This letter is to inform families of the school meal charge policy in the Sunapee School district. The Sunapee School district, SAU 85, provides students with the choice of purchasing either breakfast or lunch from the school cafeteria. Sunapee School District also participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) for those who qualify.

Meal Serving Policy

The Sunapee School district, SAU 85, adheres to a policy that it will not refuse a student a meal at breakfast or lunch for any reason.

Student Meal Accounts

Sunapee school district uses a point of sale payment system in which an account is created for all students using this system.  www.MySchoolBucks.com

Parents/guardians are responsible for keeping a positive balance in this account. Funds may be deposited online or through payments to the food service department here at Sunapee. Payments through the department can be made via cash or check. There is no processing fee when payments are made through the food service department.

The use of checks or online payments is strongly encouraged for record purposes. Checks are payable to SAU 85 and mailed to:

Charges and Overdue Accounts

Sunapee school district realizes there will be times when accounts go into the negative. In order to avoid an escalating overdue balance, an automated email will be issued when an account is overdue by $25.00. Email’s will be sent to the account that is on file in the student information system. Here at Sunapee that system is known as ALMA. We will also attempt to contact the parent/guardian via regular post mail delivered to the address on file. Should these attempts prove ineffective, we will proceed with a phone call to the number on file.

Please note that students will still be allowed to have breakfast or lunch in adhering to our district policy. This will be charged to the students account. Parents/guardians will be responsible for these charges. Only if there is a direct request in writing from a parent or guardian that we are not to provide a meal will we change this policy.

Other Charges, Parent/Guardian Monitoring

Sunapee school district has, “A La Carte” offerings for the students.  This is only available in the Middle/High school. These offerings are paid the same way as meals as they are charged to a student's account or paid in cash at the cashier. However, if a student’s account falls into the negative, that student will not be able to charge an account. In this scenario, the student will still have the option to pay with cash. We do this to avoid escalating overdue accounts and to reduce the debt on those accounts. Parents, you have the ability to monitor what your student spends/purchases here at SAU 85. Systems can be put in place with notifications that tell us what your wishes are. Such as:

  • No A La Carte items

  • No purchase over $1.00

  • White milk only

And so on. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions on this.

Free and Reduced

Sunapee School operates in compliance with the NSLP providing free and reduced meals to those families that face economic circumstances. We provide applications on the SAU website, www.SAU85.org for those families. Information is also posted on how to fill out the applications. Any other information, questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to me.
